Welcome

At-risk children need to see positive role models of color in a mentoring environment. Also, adults of color need reassurance that there is a need for their volunteer hours. By using proactive incentives and policies, community organizations, companies and universities should become a driving force to increase the participation of adults of color in youth mentoring programs.

If you are ready to become a mentor, please stop by MENTOR and enter your zip code to find opportunities in your community.

If your goal is to establish a mentoring program, please visit the National Mentoring Center first. Their website has vital information on how to create a successful program in your community. The document Foundations of Successful Mentoring: A Guidebook for Program Development spells out  the steps to follow in order to place a mentoring project in your community.

In order to encourage adults of color to volunteer and mentor at-risk children, this site has been created to provide information and strategies. Our goals are to provide a more diverse image of role-models for at-risk youth and to create a paradigm shift in communities, universities and companies that develops and/or increases policies and supports for adults of color to mentor young people.
